Materials

For this project you will need yarn I have used Katia Menfis, 100% cotton yarn, 3.5 mm crochet hook, tapestry needle and scissors.

Can also be made using light weight merino yarn or acrylic blends.

Pattern

The Pattern uses US Stitch Terms

abbreviations

ch – chain

dc – double crochet

slst – slip stitch

pattern begins

Round 1: ch 6 or make a magic ring. here I have ch 6 and slipstitch in the first stitch of the chain

Round 2: Now ch 2. Then yarn over and insert your hook into the center and pull up a nice long loop.

Repeat this 3 more times, you should have 9 loops on the hook.

now yarn over and pull through the first 8 loops. You should have 2 loops on the hook. yarn over and pull through both. This is your first puff stitch.

Now ch 2 and repeat these steps to make another puff stitch

In total we need 8 puff stitches, After you have 8 puff stitches. Make a slst in the first ch 2 space.

Round 3: ch 2 and again make a puff stitch again

yarn over insert your hook in the ch 2 space and pull up a loop then repeat this 3 more times, ensure you have 9 loops on the hook, then pull through the first 8 loops, now you have 2 loops pull through both.

ch 2 and make another puff in the same space

ch 1 and in the next ch space make 4 dcs.

Then repeat the above steps and alternate between puff stitches and dcs.

At the end of the round make a slipstitch in the 3rd ch of the ch 2 space.

Round 4: ch 2 and make a puff stitch, ch 2 and puff stitch in the same ch space.

then ch 1 and make 2 dcs in the next ch space, then make 4 dcs in the next stitches and again 2 dcs in the ch space.

repeat the above to complete the whole round.

You can from here make your farmhouse granny square as big as you like. Just note that You will have 4 new stitches in each side of the square will be added for each round.
